Chios Mastiha Research & Development Center was established in Kallimassia, Chios in the summer of 2017, aiming to combine academic knowledge with the needs of industrial production, producing innovative products based on Chios mastic.
Built with pharmaceutical industry specifications, the Center aims to exploit the full range of therapeutic and beneficial actions of Chios mastic.
The Research Center’s establishment, which is a legal entity, is composed by Greek partners. More specifically:
– IASIS PHARMA and its affiliated company Pharma Q,
– Chios Mastiha Growers Association and its affiliated company Mediterra,
– Pharmagnose, the spin-off company of the Faculty of Pharmacy of the University of Athens.
Very important for the decision of founding Chios Mastiha Research & Development Center was the milestone and unanimous recognition for Chios Mastic as a traditional medicine of herbal origin, by the European Medicines Agency (EMA), in London, August 7, 2015. That recognition was a result of IASIS PHARMA systematic and persistent effort, in close cooperation with the Faculty of Pharmacy of the University of Athens, Chios Mastic Growers Association and its affiliated company Mediterra S.A.
