Greek pharmaceutical industries support the National Health System,
the State and the patients
Athens, 27th April 2020
Contributing to the national effort to deal with the COVID-19 pandemic crisis, Greek pharmaceutical manufacturers have implemented and continue implementing a series of actions to support the national health system and health professionals who are at the forefront of the battle against the pandemic.
- Free of charge antiseptics production
The Panhellenic Association of the Pharmaceutical Industry (PEF), through its member companies, undertook the production of antiseptic solutions for the country’s hospitals, at no cost to the State. 60 tons of antiseptics have already been delivered to the Ministry of Health. The production is in progress and within the next few days the delivery of the remaining quantity will be completed.
- Donation of 40 high-tech ICU beds
PEF further strengthens greek hospitals and especially Intensive Care Units so that they can meet their particularly high needs, with the donation of 40 high-tech ICU beds. The 40 specialized ICU beds are American-made and their advanced design allows patients to move more easily and helps to reduce hospitalization time.
The donation of 40 high-tech ICU beds was led by the following PEF member – companies: ANFARM, BENNETT, DEMO, ELPEN, FARAN, FREZYDERM, GALENICA, GAP, GENEPHARM, IASIS, INNOVEMIS PALI, MALVIE, KLEVITA PHEF, KOPER, MOPER , RAFARM, VOCATE and WINMEDICA.
The purpose of this donation is to increase the capacity of public health facilities in intensive care units in the fight against COVID-19.

- We ensure the adequacy of medicines
The Greek pharmaceutical industry is in constant communication and coordination with the Ministry of Health and the competent bodies, to ensure the adequacy of the necessary medicines for the patients. We already have sufficient stocks for the next 4 months while we have strengthened the staff shifts in the production units that now operate on a 24-hour basis. In difficult circumstances, we ensure that no patient with a chronic illness is deprived of their essential medicines.
- Medicines for over 3 million policyholders and patients
Today, more than 3 million patients in Greece are treated with drugs produced domestically by Greek pharmaceutical companies. Greek production has the ability to cover at least 75% of the needs of Greek patients in medicines. This is a privilege for a few countries in Europe.
At the same time, Greek pharmaceutical companies are monitoring the scientific developments for the COVID-19 treatments under study and they are ready -if needed- to provide their production units to the state, for the production of any treatment deemed appropriate.
Greek pharmaceutical companies will continue to contribute to society and support health personnel, the National Health System and patients for as long will be needed. The national effort continues.
