A scientific lecture under the title: “The role of Chios Mastic Gum on functional dyspepsia and helicobacter pylori. A novel Pharmaceutical approach” was successfully organized on Wednesday 23 March 2016 20:00 at the «THE ΜΕΤ HOTEL», in Thessaloniki. The event was addressed to GPs.

The main speaker Dr. Hr. Zavos, specialized gastroenterologists-hepatologist, elaborated on what is Chios Mastic Gum, how it is produced and its composition. The speaker referred to functional dyspepsia according to the diagnostic criteria of Rome III and analyzed the diagnostic and therapeutic algorithm of the disease, emphasizing on the data relating to the role of Chios Mastic. The safety profile of Chios Mastic was also analyzed versus the administration of proton pump inhibitors. Then the speaker analyzed the data on the clinical experience of Chios Mastic as a monotherapy or as an adjuvant therapy for the symptomatic treatment of helicobacter pylori infection.

There was a strong interest from the audience for this novel pharmaceutical approach for the treatment of functional dyspepsia and H. Pylori.

The next speaker, Dr. Demosthenes Miliaras, Prof. of Pathology at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, lectured on the value of biopsies during gastroscopy, especially in the Greek population where the incidence of H. Pylori infection is high compared to Western Europe.
