The kick-off meeting of the research program under the distinct title “EXANDAS” of the Marie Sklodowska Curie Actions (MSCA) programs was successfully organized on 1-2 April 2016. The specific program aims to exploit the aromatic plants’ by-products such as the Chios Mastic for the purpose of developing novel pharmaceutical products. The meeting took place at “Kostis Palamas” building of the University of Athens followed by dinner at the “Aegli Zappiou” restaurant. The following day the project participants had the opportunity to visit the state of the art laboratories of the Department of Pharmacognosy & Chemistry of Natural Products, Faculty of Pharmacy (UOA) under the guidance of Ass. Prof. Nik. Fokialakis and his team’s member Dr. Stathopoulou. Then the group received a guided tour of the New Acropolis Museum followed by lunch sponsored by IASIS PHARMA.
The program coordinator is Assistant Prof. N. Aligiannis, Department of Pharmacognosy & Chemistry of Natural Products, Faculty of Pharmacy University of Athens (Head, Prof. Skaltsounis). Participants of the program are academic institutions from different countries, such as “Universite Paris Descartes” (France), Institute of Organic Chemistry with Centre of Phytochemistry (Bulgaria), as well as Tunisian, Morrocan and Algerian academic centers and private companies from Bulgaria, France, Germany and the Chios Mastic Growers Association. The results of the project are expected to be announced in the summer of 2020.
IASIS PHARMA actively participates in the program Horizon 2020 which is is the financing framework of EU for research and Innovation that will cover the period 2014-2020, with a budget of approximately 80 billion Euros.
